3rd Annual Celebration of Song Benefit Raises $85,000 for Washington Lawyers’ Committee Programs (Photos)

On Monday, November 18, the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs held its 3rd Annual Celebration of Song Benefit Concert, Reception & Raffle, at Theatre J, DC Jewish Community Center, in Washington, DC.The event, attended by more than 200 Committee supporters, raised $85,000 for the Committee’s programs.

The Benefit Concert featured Peter Yarrow of the performing group Peter, Paul and Mary; the Washington Revels’ Jubilee Voices; and Washington, DC’s School Without Walls Senior High School Concert Choir, conducted by choral director Gregory Lewis.

Prior to the concert, the Committee presented its 2013 Performing Artist Lifetime Achievement Award to Peter Yarrow in grateful recognition of the enduring gift of his music to the cause of civil rights.

During the Benefit Reception, the Committee held raffle drawings for fabulous prizes, including trips to Paris, Chicago, and New York City; a luxury Washington, DC sports package; and a top-notch selection of fine wines.

Proceeds from the event benefitted the Committee and its public education work, including its highly praised DC Public School Partnership Program that provides tutoring, mentoring and other supportive services for thousands of DC Public School students annually.

The Committee gratefully acknowledges the donors of its raffle prizes, corporate sponsors, raffle ticket purchasers, performers, and event attendees for their support for the Committee.
