Associates Campaign

The Associates Campaign of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee is our annual fundraising drive run by associates at firms across metropolitan Washington, DC. From March through May, our Associate Trustees and Campaign Coordinators ask their colleagues--including partners, counsel, associates, and non-lawyer professionals--and their law firms to support the civil rights mission of the Committee. The Committee is so grateful to these associate fundraisers who are demonstrating that giving back to our community in many ways is integral to the profession.

Gift in Memory of Tom Williamson

Tom was a true champion for the rights of others from the very beginning of his legal career. His involvement with the Lawyers’ Committee for more than 40 years is a testament to his compassion and generosity towards everyone in our society.

The Committee is turning our sadness at Tom Williamson’s passing into renewed energy. We will pick up his torch and carry it forward. Gifts given in memory of Tom will support our efforts to protect individuals and communities who are experiencing violations of their civil rights.

John Burke Pro Bono Breakfast

The Washington Lawyers’ Committee holds an annual breakfast briefing in November to present its agenda for the upcoming year to the DC legal community.

About the Breakfast:

The annual Burke Breakfast serves as the Committee's primary opportunity to introduce new lawyers and firms to our pro bono work, report to supporting firms on our recent cases and related activities, and discuss opportunities for lawyers’ and firms’ pro bono involvement.

For over 20 years, John L. Burke, Jr. served with distinction as the Committee’s General Counsel and as a volunteer attorney on a series of significant Committee cases. Shortly after his untimely death in 2004, the Committee’s Pro Bono Breakfast was renamed in his honor and a fund bearing his name was established. To date, the John Burke Memorial Fund has received over $100,000 in gifts. The proceeds of this fund are used to support the cause of pro bono service to which John contributed so greatly.

For more information about the next breakfast briefing or to donate to the Burke Memorial Fund, email

The 2017 John Burke Pro Bono breakfast was held on Friday, November 3, 2017.
