Take Action: Help End Practices that Unfairly Restrict Access to Housing by May 30

Have you been screened out of housing?  Do you want to end practices that unfairly restrict people from obtaining housing?  Too often, people trying to find affordable, dignified homes for themselves and their families are locked out of housing to live because of background checks, also known as “tenant screening.” But now we have a chance to tell the federal government about the problems people face when applying for housing.

Tell your story to help hold landlords and background check companies accountable for the harms they cause, like charging too many fees, denying people housing because of past criminal or eviction records, denying people because of a credit check, or never telling people why they were denied. Share your story and reasons with U.S. government agencies so they understand the negative impacts of tenant screening practices.  By accessing this website, you can complete a short form that will enable you to share your perspective directly with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Federal Trade Commission.

Make sure you act quickly because comments are due by May 30.
