The Committee is thrilled to share the addition of two distinguished advocates to our team, Hannah Lieberman and Katia Garrett.

This fall, Hannah Lieberman joined the Committee as Special Counsel. She has taken on a crucial role managing our very active litigation docket. Hannah has been especially involved in leading our efforts around housing and segregation, as well as the class action lawsuit on behalf of immigrant children detained at Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center challenging the conditions and abuse they are suffering there.

Hannah’s distinguished career in anti-poverty and civil rights advocacy includes serving as Associate Dean of Clinical and Experiential Learning at the UDC David A. Clarke School of Law, Executive Director of the Neighborhood Legal Services Program, Deputy Executive Director of the Legal Aid Bureau of Maryland, and Director of Advocacy of Community Legal Services in Arizona. She is a national leader in the equal justice movement and a seasoned litigator.

Katia Garrett joined the Committee at the start of 2018 as our new Chief Operating Officer. Katia is providing operational, financial, and administrative leadership to the Committee.

Katia started her career as a civil rights litigator and has a long record of commitment to civil rights and equal justice work, as well as non-profit management. She led the DC Circuit Task Force on Gender, Race and Ethnic Bias, served as Chief of Staff in the US Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Policy Development, worked in the DOJ Violence Against Women Grants, oversaw the DOJ pro bono program, served as executive director of the DC Bar Foundation and the DC Judicial Nomination Commission, and served as President of the Washington Council of Lawyers. She currently serves on the Board of Managerial Trustees of the International Association of Women Judges, the DC Fiscal Policy Institute Advisory Board, and the Honorary Board of the Washington Council of Lawyers.
