On December 12, 2020, the Metropolitan AME Church had its Black Lives Matter sign destroyed by members of the Proud Boys as they rampaged across the city attacking Black churches and vandalizing Black Lives Matter Plaza. These events occurred in the wake of repeated provocation by Proud Boys leadership and is part of a pattern of violent conduct around the nation attacking those who support the Black Lives Matters Movement.

Today, on behalf of the Metropolitan AME Church, we sued the Proud Boys and others. Lead counsel in the matter is the national Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and the firm of Paul Weiss. As the Proud Boys again return to Washington this week, we are honored to stand with the Metropolitan AME Church in the critical struggle for racial justice.
