KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
NATIONAL ORIGEN
DISCRIMINATION IS
AGAINST THE LAW
Has the following happened
to you?
- Even though I am authorized to work in the United
States, an employer refuses to give me a job because
I am not a United States citizen or a legal permanent
resident.
- My child in school has problems speaking English,
but the school does give him the necessary assistance
he needs to learn English.
- I am an El Salvadoran immigrant. I got a job as
a janitor with a cleaning company. After one month
I was fired because I don’t speak English
very well even though speaking English was not necessary
to do the work.
- A month ago my wife and I (we are immigrants)
found an apartment advertised in the newspaper.
When we went to see the apartment, the landlord
told us that the apartment was no longer available.
He didn’t take out the advertisement in the
newspaper and he continued showing it to American
citizens.
- I am an immigrant. When I went to a hotel, the
receptionist told me that I had to pay for the room
up front, in cash, instead of using my credit card.
The other hotel guests could pay with a credit card.
There are many victims of national origin discrimination
who do not know what rights they have. If you believe
that you or someone you know has been a victim of
national origin discrimination and you want more information,
