ATHLETIC PROGRAMS AND CREATION
OF NEW FOUNDATION TO PROVIDE
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING

Parents United for the D.C. Public Schools will hold a press conference on Tuesday morning July 16, 2002 to release an updated report on the enormous deficiencies in D.C. high school athletic programs, facilities and funding.  The report --- Unlevel Playing Fields II --- is a sequel to an earlier report issued last year.

As part of the press conference Parents United will also be announcing the formal establishment of the Level Playing Fields Foundation, a new grant-making body created to make supplemental grant funding available to athletic departments at participating D.C. high schools.   Among the board members of the new foundation who will be attending the press conference are: Terry Lierman, Abe Pollin, Jay Silberman and Iris Toyer.

In addition to the Level Playing Fields Foundation board members, those attending the press conference will include: Mary Levy, Parents United’s budget analyst, several Parents United board members, and a number of  D .C. student athletes and their parents.

The press conference will be held in the Press Room of the MCI Center, 601 F St. NW, beginning at 9:30 a.m.  The Press Room entrance is located on the 6th  Street side of the MCI Center next to the loading dock.
