WASHINGTON LAWYERS’ COMMITTEE HOSTS THIRD ANNUAL COOKING FOR KIDS BAKE SALE AND TASTE-OFF

The Third Annual Cooking for Kids Bake Sale and Taste-Off will be held on Monday, June 10, 4:00 pm, at the offices of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. Area law firms employees, who submit home-baked items for the sale and judging by a jury of their law firm peers in the categories of Best Pie, Best Cake and Best Cookie, will have their submissions judged by a panel of culinary experts to determine the winners in each category.

This year’s culinary judges include Phyllis Frucht, a chef and teacher of international cuisine; Carla P. Hall, a former C.P.A. and model who is currently Director/Executive Chef for the Washington Club; and Katherine Tallmadge, a weight-loss and nutrition expert and author of Diet Simple.

Proceeds from the Bake Sale and Taste-Off will support enrichment activities for students in D.C. public schools that are partnered with law firms participating in the Washington Lawyers’ Committee’s Public Education/Legal Services Project. The five-year-old Project, which provides tutoring, mentoring and other services for approximately 17,000 D.C. public school students annually, is one of several programs of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee, which has sought to improve the quality of public education in the District of Columbia for over 20 years.
